V7.3-2 -> V8.3 Alpha upgrade glitch

I was upgrading to V8.3 from a fully maintained V7.3-2 system, and at the very beginning of the execution phase, it errors on multiple unresolved dependencies for files in the Motif package.

Is there a proper way to force it through this step? should I uninstall Motif from the MINIMUM before conducting the upgrade? I'm kind of thinking the uninstall would have the same problem with the PCSI databases.

Any one else experienced this?

Unfortunately, it is on the graphics console during upgrade. The words "unresolved dependency" stick out in my notes, though.

Next time I try, I will change the console to my laptop and record the dialogue.

Well, I removed the product DW-MOTIF and it still didn't solve the problem.Niether did attempting to install V8.2.

I ultimately deleted SYS$SYSROOT:[*...]*.*PCSI*, and then continued the V8.3 install after the install procedure complained about not being able to get the history for VMS, Motif, CDSA, Kerberos, etc.

After that, the V8.3 install proceeded without complaint.

I think when this system was installed, I was given the choice of upgrading Motif or preserving the earlier version and chose the latter. The V8 upgrades don't remember that the Motif might be one of several versions.

The exact error in the upgrade (the post-it fell on the floor) is:

"Failure to resolve conflicting requirements for [CDA$LIBRARY]CL_DAY.DOC; Terminate? [Y]"

It then repeats this message for EVERY DW-MOTIF component.

it sounds like you have to be at a minimum version of DW Motif before upgrading. There may be some hint in the upgrade manual.
