Where is Ian?

In these days, I can come rarely in this forum due my heavy business.
So, today I'm amazed when I can't see Ian Miller on Top 10 VMS gurus.
What does happen?

Re: Where is Ian?

Antonio,

You will still see him there, just for some reason his name appears to have been reset.

Re: Where is Ian?

Ian,
do you suppose you can edit your profile and change your name back?

Antoniov,
I stuck a question in the general forums sections: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1023361

Ian Miller = BR754460

Re: Where is Ian?

Gentlemen,

I deliberately avoided pointing out the obvious. I presumed that the change was made for a reason.

We are all familiar enough with Ian's posts to see where the traffic is. (I did not want to "Out" Ian).

Re: Where is Ian?

Antonio,

regrettably, this is not the first, or only, issue on ITRC logins. All kind of weird changes have occurred, notably on ITRC login. I have reached the state where I take it as I take the weather: I grudgingly accept the inevitable & unchangeable.
But I sill do not LIKE it!!!

fwiw,

Salute!

Have one on me (maybe in May in Nashua?)

Re: Where is Ian?

I am still here but my name in my profile has been changed to my username. I have emailed itrc support about this.

Re: Where is Ian?

Jan,

I think that Doug's reference is to the British series "Secret Agent Man" starring Patrick McGoohan (circa 1965).

Re: Where is Ian?

Bob,

The words are from the Johnny Rivers song used as the theme for the TV show you mention, which was the re-badged UK TV show "Danger Man."

Be seeing you,

Galen

(As a die hard fan of McGoohan's other memorable TV show I couldn't resist an allusion to it as well. What was its name, you ask? "That would be telling!")

Re: Where is Ian?

Galen,

Yes, I at first mixed them up (had to check my facts before posting).

Re: Where is Ian?

Johnny River's TV theme song, "Secret Agent Man", enjoyed quite a bit of radio air time in the US. The Ventures did a version of it, too. More recently, The Blues Traveler recorded it for an "Ace Ventura" movie.

On a more curiously obscure note, Ian's was the sixth post in this thread, that is, he is not only Secret Agent Man (aka: Danger Man), he is also Number 6 !

Re: Where is Ian?

Wow!
Where has been Antoniov?
Just 30 seconds after I wrote this thread my ADSL connection broke down and until now I can't read yours messages.

Ian,
forget secrect agent men and come back in VMS world ;-)
HP service works slowly but they always solve troubles. So I think you still remain a number for some days.

Don't be worry!

Re: Where is Ian?

Apparently there must be another Ian Miller on itrc so changing my name to make it unique is what I have to do. (according to itrc support)

Re: Where is Ian?

Ian,
is some way I'm responsable for your trouble :-?

This is the real story ...
Two year ago, a crazy-fellow created a user with the same name of mine (Antoniov). And then he/she posted a lot of offensive messages with my (false) signature.
As you can imaginate, at first time I was amazed, then I became very angry :-[
I wrote to HP moderator so someone deleted all offensive messages.
I also asked HP for locking my own name and today this is not possible. But I think may be a little bug in this control so you can't use "Ian Miller".

Write to HP moderator again.

Re: Where is Ian?

Antonio,

_I_ do not mind seeing Ian's name with the extra!
But of course, Ian is the final authority on the subject!
Ian: I think it looks just great now!

fwiw,

Proost.

Have one on me (maybe at the Bootcamp in Nashua? I already definitely _KNOW_ Ian and I will share more than just one Sam Adams that week!)

Re: Where is Ian?

That would be too funny if a feature was added to the ITRC forum triggered by Antoniov and if that very feature would subsequently serve to confuse Antoniov (and others).

It seems odd that the onus of the duplicated name would be on the first owner (here 'our Ian'), but hopefully this is sufficiently low incidence that it can be dealt with without software solutions.

It seems more intriguing (sp?) than annoying at this point.

Cheers,
Hein.

Re: Where is Ian?

Antonio,

do you not think it is about time for a new Personal Quote?

I would love to accept your invitation, but last time I inquired, Time Travel was prohitively expensive, and the waiting time unhealthily long!

(and I doubt if a re-do of Turin would be as beautiful, or as successfull for the Orange Brigade and the Squadra Azurri !)

No, that's not his new name.
I looks like he opted for a subtle "Ian Miller.".

Re: Where is Ian?

Yes that trailing dot is enough to make a difference. A bit like trying to spot the dot when reading BLISS :-)
