I think your config is supported... Did you take a look at the IBM's ESS host attachment guide ?
If not, there is a full chapter detailing in step-by-step about attaching a Alpha server with ESS and I hope you would find all the info. from there. I have used the doc. for other systems like AIX, SUN etc. and it works.
Link for the document is here, and refer Chapter 3. Attaching to a Hewlett-Packard AlphaServer Tru64 UNIX host.

IBM 's install guide states no required changes to the ddr.dbase for fibre.
