i got an alpha server ds10 with a compaq sdt10000 tape driver and i need to do a backup of 40 Gb in an only one tape but i haven't a tape of this dimension.
can anyone suggest me something ?
can i use a modified dds4 or dds3 tapes ?

Of course, the hardware compression in the
tape drive may not be able to do much with
data which you have already compressed.

Modified how? The tapes hold what they hold.
Stretching a tape won't help. What else is
there?

Can you explain again, exactly what you want to do...?
The subject of your post mentions a DDS2 tape. That tape will only hold 8GB of compressed data, so no you can't fit 40GB on it...
