problem booting from cdrom drive in es40

hi I am trying to install Tru64 unix v5.1b on es40 server.I inserted the os disk in cdrom drive.. then on p00>> show device.. i notice device dqa0.0.0.15.0 assigned to cdrom drive. device name DQA0.. then i executed:

p00>>boot dqa0 ( i also tried giving full path)

the server just reboots to blank & then when i press enter it comes back to
p00>> promt.

it doesn't boot from cd.. i tried other cds as well but no luck.. i also tried changing the cdrom drive..what is the problem?

What is the last message that you see, maybe HALT BUTTON IN?, ensure that the halt button is not pressed, otherwise you cannot boot the system.

there is no message.when i press enter the exact display is like below:

thats it on lcd it shows SRM v7.1-1

Which disk is "the os disk"?

What does "reboots to blank" mean? Actual
messages?

Are you using a serial terminal or a graphics
display and keyboard?

Can we assume that the CD drive LED flashes,
so that we know that the system is trying to
boot from the CD?

hello steven I am using Tru64unix ver 5.1b disc 1 to boot.

I have connected directly to the es40 server ( i.e I have connected mouse keyboard & monitor to the server)

i allow the server to boot at srm promtp i.e. p00>>

p00>> show device ( to check the cdrom device name)

dqa0.0.0.15.0 DQA0 Compaq cdrom...

p00>> boot dqa0

after issuing this command there is some activity on cdrom drive & then the server restarts but doesn't display anything unless i hit enter key. once i hit enter key... it displays

p00>> ^x
p00>>

thats it.. it doesn't boot from cd.
