I have 2 CPUs (500 MHz) in each of the COMPAQ Alpha Server ES40.
Request you to kindly guide me on the following:
1. What is the maximum speed of the processor I can upgrade to and what is the performance gain if I do so?
2. Will there be a license issue for the customer?
Thanks & Regards,
Trupti.

Solution1 - 4 Alpha 21264 Processors
6/500-MHz CPU with 4-MB L2 Late Write Cache
67/667-MHz CPU with 8-MB L2 Dual Data Rate Cache
68/833-MHz CPU with 8-MB L2 Dual Data Rate Cache
License is an issue if adding additional cpu's

Re: Re: Processor Upgrade
It's EV6 (21264)-500 MHz.

Re: Re: Processor Upgrade
I would think of moving all 4 CPUs in one system, and purchasing 666 MHz CPUs into second.
CPU consists of 2 parts: Chip + License.
As far as I observed, Licence does not relates to namely THIS chip. (i.e. it doesn't have chip's serial number in it)

Re: Re: Processor Upgrade
Thanks for your inputs. But please reply to foll.
1. for the existing 4 CPUs (each of 500 MHz), if I replace all 4 CPUs with 833 MHz (That's the maximum for COMPAQ Alpha ES40, correct me if I am wrong?), what is the performance gain? Is there any site/link available which shows this?
2. License will be an issue if I say replace 4 CPUs with 8 CPUs (of the same size and type, correct me if I am wrong).
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Trupti.

Re: Re: Processor Upgrade
if you change the EV level or number of CPU's you'll need additional mod_units within your license.
