Smart Array 5300 - Hot spare didn't come in & Parity init msg.
Good Morning,
Essentials:
Alphaserver ES45
T64 V5.1B-3
Smart Array controller 5300
Firmware Rev 3.40
cpqacuxe - V1.30.7.1a
Sequence of events:
Day 1:
- One member of RAID 5 set goes bad
- Hot spare assigned to RAID set does not come into RAID set
Day 2:
- Fail drive discovered
- Diagnostics not run to determine specific failure
- Bring up Smart Array Web interface (cpqacuxe)
- SmartArray status message in red
"Background parity initialization is currently queued or in progress on logical drive 1 ( RAID 5 in array A).
If background parity initialization is queued, it will start when I/O is performed on the drive.
When background parity initialization completes, the performance of the logical drive will improve."
- Removed failed member from shelf
- Spare comes into RAID set
- Before spare inclusion completed, I insert new drive into slot where fail drive was formerly installed
- New drive completes inclusion into RAID set
- SmartArray shows good RAID set status
Present status:
Blue triangle with "i" insided #785
"Background parity initialization is currently queued or in progress on logical drive 1 ( RAID 5 in array A).
If background parity initialization is queued, it will start when I/O is performed on the drive.
When background parity initialization completes, the performance of the logical drive will improve."
Questions:
- Why didn't spare drive come into array automatically?
- According to cpqacuxe RAID set has rebuilt. Why is status message present?
- I have refreshed the controller information manually
- Is RAID set O.K. and indicators haven't cleared the status?
- Can/should I do this?
- If so, then how?
Thank-you all very much. ,,, Joe S.
