System Management from a PC

Hi,

I'm a BRAND new user of True Unix V 5.1

Is there a way to manage this system from my PC (Windows XP)?

I tried eXcursion (i.e. Xserver) but it does not give me the same "look and feel" as if I was on the console.

Is there something like "Remode Desktop for Windows Servers" ?

TIA,

Mike

For terminal based support - use Putty:

For Xwindows - try Exceed (not free).

Hi,

we use Reflection for X and the XDMCP protocol to get the CDE desktop on the PC.

Alternatively you can look at VNC:
- http://www.tightvnc.com/ or
- http://www.tightvnc.com/

If we're purely talking about management, then you also use a web browser to connect to the server on port 2301. This should give you access to sysman functionality.

http://:2301/
will let you manage the system.

Thanks for repeating the argument. It showed me that I had an error in my answer. The 2nd URL should have been http://www.realvnc.com/

Han,

don't you need the insight manager agents for that?

Michael,

Not for VNC! ;-)

For port 2301, yes, I think you do.

Re: System Management from a PC

Han,

Does realvnc have also server part (i.e. does it have to be installed also on server side) ?

How does it compare to X windows solution (i.e. eXcursion) ?

Tx,

Re: System Management from a PC

Yes, VNC does have a server part. A binary version for Tru64 UNIX should be available somewhere. The real VNC web site has completely changed since I downloaded the version that I use. But I'm sure google can help.
