Tru64's licensing model

Hi! I've got this AlphaStation DS10 and its "original" OS was OpenVMS 7.3. I'd like to use it as an IPFilter firewall but I'd like to know if I need a license for Tru64 5.1A to be legal. (does an AlphaStation has a "bundled" license for any Compaq's OSes???)
I've installed it and it send messages about OSF-BASE license but does NOT keep me from logging into it nor nothing...
Could you make it clear for me?
Thank you all!

Re: Tru64's licensing model

Jose,

I think your DS10 Alpha Station had been purchased with pre-installed OpenVMS V7.2 system with base lic for single user lic or sys manager lic.

You can opt for any one of these three model...

1. AlphaStation DS10 with Tru64 UNIX systems V5.1) and 2-user Base license

2. AlphaServer DS10 with OpenVMS systems V7.2-1 and Base license with System Manager license

3. AlphaStation DS10 with OpenVMS systems V7.2-1 and Base license for 1-user conc. license.

Re: Tru64's licensing model

Jose,

I hope you can transfer your OpenVMS lic or you can go for S/W trade-in, no need to use any other form of tru64 CDs...

Also there is a Non commercial lic for less than $100, you can find here...

Re: Tru64's licensing model

I am of the thinking that your server came with a pre-installed license. Used the License that was bought with the server. open the License Manager and filled in the information that came with it.There should be three License Agreement. Base, Server and User.
