Re: what is difference between v5.1 and v5.1B?

Q. Is v5.1B an update of v5.1?

A. Yes, its a later update of the V5.1 family. The V5.1A and V5.1B updates include additional functions, features, and additional support for newer platforms & storage over whats in V5.1.

Within each of these base releases there are additional patch kit releases. The patch kits have bundled fixes for the base release. So, V5.1B-1, V5.1B-2, ... are V5.1B plus patch kit release 1, 2, etc.

V5.1 ended standard support 2/2003.
V5.1A ended standard support 1/2004.
V5.1B ended standard support 8/2004.
V5.1B-1 ended standard support 6/2005.
V5.1B-2 ended standard support 12/2006.

Currently only V5.1B-3 and V5.1B-4 versions have standard support. V5.1B-5 is scheduled for release Q4/2008 per the roadmap.

See http://h30097.www3.hp.com/docs/pub_page/spds.html for the specs of the different releases. The Tru64 home page http://h30097.www3.hp.com/ has other documentation available that explains the available support and future kit release schedule (roadmap).
