Query: How to using Intelligent Provisioning to intall VMware ESXi 7.0 on DL380 Gen10?
Greetings fellows,
I'm preparing for build a system that running on vSphere 7 with a DL380 Gen10 server and a MSA 2062 SAS storage.
Here's the plan, I'm not sure what even if I can select a volume that created in MSA 2062 as a target to install ESXi or not. If this is possible, what should I actually do in Step 4?
Step 1, Prepare a USB flash disk and write it with HPE custom ESXi image.
Step 2, Connect MSA 2062 to DL380 and set it up in SMU. Create a new volume then map it to both HBA on DL380.
Step 3, Insert the USB flash disk to DL380, then boot the server, enter the Intelligent Provisionning menu.
Step 4, Select the volume created in MSA 2062 as the install target, then enter other information, start the install.
Thank you.

Re: Query: How to using Intelligent Provisioning to intall VMware ESXi 7.0 on DL380 Gen10?
Hello ManBha,
Looking good, but it looks like a document apply to who want to boot from SAN, I mean, In this system, MSA 2062 storage is connected to 2 different HBAs on DL380 via 2 SAS cables. I've checked out the Perform Maintenance menu but couldn't found where to configure it to boot from SAS storage. Did I miss any important information?

Re: Query: How to using Intelligent Provisioning to intall VMware ESXi 7.0 on DL380 Gen10?
Hello,
Boot from SAN should be enabled from HBA card settings in BIOS.
Go to system utilities > BIOS > select the card> make sure boot from SAN is enabled for the card.
Thanks,
TAM

Hello TAM,
As a result of installation, I have retry install ESXi from Intelligent provisionning, but still can't select a volume that created on MSA 2062, Where I can find that boot from SAN option?
Thank you.

Re: Query: How to using Intelligent Provisioning to intall VMware ESXi 7.0 on DL380 Gen10?
Hello,
There's another HBA "HPE Smart Array E208e-p SR Gen10" plug on Slot 1, this HBA has 1 sas connection to MSA 2062.
In this case, It should shown as a selectable option at "Rapid Setup - Storage Controller" menu.
but there's just "HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 ", no any other option.
Did I miss any important steps?

Re: Query: How to using Intelligent Provisioning to intall VMware ESXi 7.0 on DL380 Gen10?
Hello,
You need to go to HBA card settings in the BIOS.
You will get an option to enable boot from SAN there.
Thanks,
TAM

Re: Query: How to using Intelligent Provisioning to intall VMware ESXi 7.0 on DL380 Gen10?
Hello TAM,
I just uploaded some screenshots of the BIOS interface on my last reply, but I'm not sure if that is what you're refering to.
If not, could you please tell me the correct step to find that option to set boot from SAN enable?
thanks.

Re: Query: How to using Intelligent Provisioning to intall VMware ESXi 7.0 on DL380 Gen10?
BTW, I had tried install ESXi 7.0U3d to a volume that created on MSA 2062, and when I turn on the Server it can sucessfully boot from MSA 2062. But it just weird that you can't select a volume that created on MSA 2062 as a target to install the ESXi in Intelligent Provisioning.

Re: Query: How to using Intelligent Provisioning to intall VMware ESXi 7.0 on DL380 Gen10?
Hello,
Thanks for the update. So if it boots from MSA successfully means that the Boot from SAN is already enabled.
I would request you to log a support case with HPE for further assistance on this.
Thanks,
TAM
