8200 cd-w

Hardware checks out in Device Manager. All operations appear to be 'go' but when I copy an MP3 file to a new disk in the burner, it will not play on any device I own. If I try to copy a .wav file, it ejects mid-stream with an error message. I bought it refurbished with no documentation, only the install disc. The 'formatting' and 'dla' process is confusing. What am I missing?

Hello,

You have to select to burn an audio CD in order to be able to play the mp3 you are burning. Same goes for the .wav files.

Re: 8200 cd-w

I have recently purchased the same hp cd-writer 8200 and have the same problem, but only TRACK 1 does not work properly. I have recorded four complete CDs with MP3 files and as long as I skip over Track 1 they play perfectly.

If you burn as data they should be able to be read on a PC - not home audio player. If you burn as audio then the MP3 is converted and should be playable on home audio. Data (including MP3) can have many sessions. Audio can have only one & the disk must be closed to be playable on home audio. If you create multisession audio before closing then the home audio player will only see what's in the first session.
