8200i problems

I have not been able to get my CD Writer 8200i to work for the longest time now. I am running Win2K, 1.5 gig computer, with 320 megs of RAM. I am using Sony CD-R media to record (or not record.) The biggest problem I am having is that when I try to burn a CD, I always get an error about 40% the way done, and it ejects my CD sighting three different errors. One of them I know is a buffer underrun error, which I don't get because of my computer's speed and ram, and I'm not running any applications. There is usually a power calibration error, as well as one other. I have tried burning at a slower speed, but I still get the error in almost the exact same place every time. I haven't tried another brand of CD-R, cause I thought Sony CD-Rs I could trust. I think there might be something else wrong though, not the media, but I could be wrong about that. Also, I recently tried to view some content I had burned onto a CD-R, and when I tried to access the CD, I got a message saying the CD needed to be formatted.....sometimes I get a message saying the CD is not accessible.....what is up with that?

Re: 8200i problems

Your drive is most likely at fault here. Almost every time I see the power calibration error, it means bad hardware. The fact that it errors out at the same percentage strengthens this hypothesis. Try it on a different system; if it does the same thing, start shopping for a replacement CD Writer.

Yes...more than likely a hardware fault if you're getting a power calibration error.
