I have the same problem-- running W2K SP2 (going to install SP3 and see if fixes it) with a 8200f USB burner. I install Nero and it doesn't find it, only the Virtual Burner...
I have pavilion 8980 with internal cd writer 9140i. I was using record_now software and it was working fine, but after installing Nero, my cd-rw drive no longer recognizes any media what-so-ever. It will flash green when a disc is put in, but it always ends up saying there is no media in the drive. Uninstalling all the other cd ???writer software and the cd-rw drive and re-installing nero, has not fixed the problem. I'm running windows xp home edition. I am using nero version 5.5.7.8.
I would try either 5.5.8 or 5.5.9 I had issues with XP using 5.5.7 of nero I'm not quite sure why because it worked fine in 2000 etc... however XP is also a MS product so you never know why stuff just doesn't work. (*grin*) Hope this helps.
I had this problem - if you 'choose recorder', only the image recorder is present. Nero's technical support sent me 'wnaspi32.dll' to put in the Nero folder. This fixed the problem instantly and the recorder is now recognised and burns at maximum speed - a sprightly 4X !!
