?Easy Trax and Adaptec CDRW Software Extremely Slow after Re-Install?

Greetings All:

After re-formatting my hard drive and re-installing Windows OEM 95b and the HP CD-Writer Plus software that came with my 7500i series CDRW drive (Adaptec 2.5 and HP Easy Trax) I have found that the software has slowed down to a snail's pace! I have found that it takes several hours to re-format a DirectCD disk to ISO9660 at disk eject time. I read in the specification that this time should not exceed 4 minutes which seems close to the way it used to work thus I would guess the software is slowed down by a factor of approximately 100! I also find that the Easy Trax file index import function which is just a read from disk is also extremely slow. It seems as if the software has become crippled.

I have un-installed the CD-Writer Plus software, cleaned out all references to it in the registry, ensured all associated directories have been deleted and then re-installed it several times without correcting the problem.

I found a recommendation on the HP site to ensure the DMA is disabled in Device Manager and when I checked I found that it is in fact disabled. Incidently my drive is installed as the master on the secondary IDE buss which is in accordance with the HP recommendations.

I have tested the drive data transfer rate with a diagnostics utility and it reports a read rate of approximately 1650 kB/S which seems about normal and certainly doesn't suggest the transfer rate is extremely slow.

I have run out of ideas. I wonder if anyone here has any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Very Best Regards,
