Fatal Exception 0E when using CD-RW 8230

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have been using an HP 8230e (extrenal CD burner) for a couple years now. With the last few months, it has started giving me this error after making one disc copy and I tell it to make another one.

Fatal excpetion 0E 0028:C003C240 in VXD IOS(01) + 00000B70.

After pressing any key to contine, I get this (abbreviated version):

Exception 0E 0028:C148CF1D in VXD CDVSD(01) + 00001CDD. Called from 0028:C148C0A5 in VXD CDVSD(01) 0000E65.

I always have to turn off the machine. It can't recover once these blue screens have appeared.

Side note: when burning CDs, I disable my Norton Anti-Virus' System Realtime Protection, because I had crashing (blue screen) problems with that in the past.

Any idea what might be causing this new round of blue screens?

FYI, I am on a Dell PIII 677MHz, 128MB RAM and W98 2nd Edition.

Thanks again!

Try disabling Digital Audio Playback in the properties of both your cdrom and the writer (Device Mgr). Do you have an Intel chipset, by chance?
