HP cd writer 8200 series

Can anyone help with my start-up screen? I want to have it so I don't get the Roxio Direct CD screen won't run on start-up. The outside of the CD/R says 8200 series (external), however in my device manager it says its an HP Cd-writer +8290. I tried right clicking on the icon in the systray and hitting Properties and going to the CD Wizard, but "Display Adaptec Direct CD start up banner already is unchecked (actually shaded out completely so I couldn't check it or uncheck it if I wanted to). How can I make it so Roxio Direct CD won't run that annoying banner at start up? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: HP cd writer 8200 series

HI Chris,

Make sure that you are using Direct CD 3.01d, if so go to www.roxio.com and go into the support link then find the software updates link, here you will find a patch for HP customers with Direct CD that has the splash screen problem.

Re: HP cd writer 8200 series

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it didn't work. I was running 3.01d, so I went and downloaded the file you said, called:

HP OEM Update for DirectCD

dcd_v301d_S64up.exe (680 KB) is the file. I ran that, and rebooted when it asked me too, unfortunately I still don't get the option to turn it off at start-up. It still runs. Actually when i right click on properties in the systray of Adaptec DirectCD Wizard, then go to Direct CD Wizard tab, the option to Display Adaptec DirectCD Start Up banner isn't even an "uncheckable" option. I can't turn it on OR off. But thanks anyway. Guess I just have to get used to it.

Re: HP cd writer 8200 series

Forgot to mention that after I installed the patch, and re-booted, the Roxio start up screen showed up the first time, and there was a box I could check when it showed up that said "Don't show this in box in the future", and I put the "X" in that box. However it still shows up. (If this helps at all)

Re: HP cd writer 8200 series

Sorry to hear about that.

Try this:
Uninstall Direct CD, from Add/Remove Programs and then reboot the system.
Browse the software disc to find the Direct CD folder and run the setup.exe inside, after installation DO NOT REBOOT, apply the downloaded patch reboot the system and try again.
If this fails let me know and I will mail you the registry fix, I dont want to post onto HP.

Re: HP cd writer 8200 series

Still didn't work. Followed the directions you gave to a "T", and still when I right click the Direct CD icon in my systray in lower right, and click properties, then click DirectCD Wizard, there is no check in the bottom option (Display Adaptec DirectCD startup banner), however, its not even an option to put a check there or not. The whole option is sort of "grayed out" Any more help would be greatly appreciated, however if we're going to make changes to the registry as you said, explain it like you're talking to a 6 year old, because I know nothing about the registries, and quite frankly after reading all I have, I'm a bit intimidated by the thought of it. (I'm sure you understand) Thanks again so far.

Re: HP cd writer 8200 series

Hi Chris,

I understand about the registry changes so we will skip that for now.
What version of Windows is that? If WIn98/ME go to the run command and type MSCONFIG and click OK then click onto the Start-up tab and remove the ticks from anything refering to Roxio, Adpatec, Direct CD, Remind32 or HP CD Writer and click apply & OK. After restarting the PC Direct CD should no longer load on boot.
