hp cd-writer 9100

I can see my cd-writer in "windows explorer", but when I attempt to write to it, I'm receiving:"no compatible CD recordable or CD-Re-Writable device could be found on your system". It used to be fine, until I got windows reinstalled, I suspect, since the CD writer came as an add-on, that maybe it got somehow disabled? I can not contact the comp. guy, please help! I tried to re-install the HP software, but it still does not work.
Thanks,
Pawel

Have you tried more than one blank CD?

I tried, it just won't recognize CD Writer, looks OK in a Window Explorer-I can put a CD in it and read use it as a 2nd CD-ROM drive.

Re: hp cd-writer 9100

I have a 9300i which is close and it is running under Win2k Pro.

1. It will only accept slow speed CD-RW's. Hi speed CD-RW's won't work. (Look at CD 1x4 speed only for CD-RW)
2. If you are using Simple Backup there is a known bug with Win2K. You are SOL. You need to buy another backup package.
3. HP replaced Simple Backup with HP DLA and HP Record Now. These are available for download on the HP website. These will not backup your disk.
