hp dvd200e

I did the firmaware upgrade on hps web site and followed the instructions to the letter! When it was finished it now says instead of a DVD200E it was now a "Ricoh Program loader 9". I wrote HP 3 times but they said that my warranty ran out three days earlier and i was on my own. So with a bit of electronics knowledge to my credit I dismantled it to have a look and to no suprice found that the chips on the circuit board said "Ricoh" on them! Even when I try to use the Hp drive finder software that came with it it says "No hp products found". Can NE body help or has had this problem???

I dont know when mine stopped working or why, but my DVD200E cant be detected either. It says the same thing, "No hp products found". So if you figure it out, let me know

Re: hp dvd200e

I did the same thing with the same results. Mine is a "Ricoh Program loader 8". Won't work at all. Won't even open the tray. Just blinks. Anybody ever get an answer to this?

Please let me know if you do.

Thanks.

Re: hp dvd200e

The great and wonderful Oz at HP told me I have a hardware problem with the drive and need to get it repaired or replaced...at my cost, of course.

It worked just fine before their firmware update. Why in the world should I have to pay for it? Their software did the damage!

I bought another one, too. And, like you, it is not HP. I have owned 6 HP Writers through the years. It was the only brand I would buy. And, I have purchased dozens of them for my customers.

Re: hp dvd200e

I ALSO DOWNLOADED THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE FROM THE HP WEBSITE AND MY DVD200E NO LONGER WORKS! IT ALSO IS LISTED AS RICOH PROGRAM LOADER 9! I E-MAILED AND E-MAILED BUT THERE WAS NEVER AN ANSWER TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I TALKED TO TECH SUPPORT AND THEY SAID THAT THE DRIVE WAS CORRUPTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I FIND IT VERY FUNNY THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD TROUBLE AND GOT THE SAME ANSWERS FROM HP! I'M SURE GLAD I WASTED $350 DOLLARS FOR THIS DRIVE! MAKES YOU WANT TO RUSH OUT AND BUY HP PRODUCTS!!!!!!!

Re: hp dvd200e

kris - Sorry to hear you have become a victim of this as well. I have continued to search for an answer but haven't been able to find anything new.

I also sent more email to the support people but now I get no answer at all.

Please let us know if you ever get anywhere on this.

Re: hp dvd200e

ok this is what happened , someone from advanced tech support called me and i explained that the firmware downloaded from the hp site caused problems. after several more calls they finally said that they would replace the drive at there cost. in three days the drive was delivered. they want the old drive back, and even paid for shipping. persistance paid off. i hope that everyone else will get the same result.

Re: hp dvd200e

Geez you would think that the least that they could do is remove the firmware update from there website .I still havent had mine resolved or even a response from them at all. Ohh ya PS..mine was $650.00 (Canadian Dollars) when I bought it, so let me know if you dudes have any further luck. thx

I don't believe the issue is really the firmware, but more likely an issue with the firmware update process failing within the drive (or perhaps being interrupted) and the drive then ends up reverting to boot code as a result (which banners as "Ricoh program loader").

Reporting the issue to HP support is the right path to take if this happens to you.
The journey IS the reward.

Re: hp dvd200e

Jason, welcome to the club. My drive was less than one week old. I fought with them and fought with them trying to get help. They said it was a hardware problem and that I must have performed the update incorrectly. They told me I would have to pay for repairs and gave me an address to send it to.

I've been updating these these things probably longer than most of them have even seen them. I do know how to do it and I did follow the directions to the letter. It updated just fine, so it said, just that it is no longer a HP drive.

I finally tried to use a Rocoh firmware update on it. It took it just fine but something still wants it to be a HP and it refuses to do so. I wish I knew how to write firmware. I am sure someone could solve our problems with a specially written firmware to bring it back to original.

Please remember us if you ever get an answer to this.I have over a dozen of their products but as they need replacing, I'm buying from other manufacturers.

Sorry to hear you are have these problems. Good luck.

Re: hp dvd200e

There may be a utility available that can force HP firmware to be overwritten on to this drive now that it thinks it's a Ricoh drive. One of my colleagues would like to talk to the individuals directly to walk them through the procedure. So please contact me at 970-898-1409 if you're experiencing this issue and I'll put you in touch with him.

Re: hp dvd200e

Lee,
I appreciate the offer. I finally through out the drive just this morning. I got tired of seeing it on my shelf.

I don't think I would have reinstalled it anyway just to try to fix it. As I said in earlier posts.

If someone does get theirs working, I would love to know about it, though.

Thanks for your interest in helping others.

Re: hp dvd200e

HP isn't really supporting these machines anymore....suggest looking at platform agnostic machines that will also give you all the driver CD's you need for future use as well. Regardless of the status of your warranty. We decommissioned our machine and replaced with a blu ray jukebox instead from Phantom Data Systems.. look'em up
