new installed CDRW causes stop errors at boot up

Hi, I have just installed a HP CD-Writer Plus 7500e on my windows2000. When I connected the writer and rebooted the machine I got Stop errors. I am not sure if I have the correct drivers. I installed it on Xp and had same problem.

Re: new installed CDRW causes stop errors at boot up

Charys,

Two questions,

One is do you get any errors when you unplug your 7500e?
Two is what is the Stop Code?

Re: new installed CDRW causes stop errors at boot up

I'm having exactly the same problem with my new PC and an HP CD Writer 9150i.

I'm using Win2k SP3 (was SP2, installing SP3 didn't fix the problem) with an ASUS P4B533-E motherboard, at boot (immediatly after the screen goes to "graphic mode" from the black initial screen) Win2k crash with:
STOP: 0x000000CA (0x00000003, 0x8207E030, 0xE136E368, 0x00000001)

The CD Writer 9150i works fine in the old system (NT4 sp6), the new system (Win2k sp3) works fine with an IDE DVD drive (LITEON DVD-ROM LTD163).

I've tried the CD Writer 9150i as master, slave, primary and secondary....same crash.

Starting Win2k in safe mode"....same crash.

I havn't installed any software/driver....couldn't go that far.

Any idea? Better buy a different product and forget about HP CD writers?

Thank you for your help

Re: new installed CDRW causes stop errors at boot up

According to that stop code it is a bug check for PNP. Install the driver prior to installing the device.

Use the HP driver from here: http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareList.jhtml;jsessionid=2JYSYGRYFDKKFQEXGR5UQEQ?reg=&cc=&prodId=hpcdwriter22591&lc=en&softitem=Microsoft%20Windows%202000%20Pro&sw_lang=en

Re: new installed CDRW causes stop errors at boot up

Greg,

thank for your replay, unfortunately there is no driver in the CDs that comes with the unit nor in the page you mention, they both contains only "applications" not device drivers.
I have however installed the software from the CD supplied with the CDW 7150i, it complained that the unit was not installed, after a reboot I had the option to install the software without the unit...so I did.

Nothing has changed, if I (try to) boot with the CDR7150i connected Win2k crash badly at the very beginning of the bot process.

Any other idea?

Re: new installed CDRW causes stop errors at boot up

Solved!

After upgrading Bios, chipset drivers with no result I uninstalled Intel?? Application Accelerator and now the CD Writer works fine, Win2k boot with no crash.

Re: new installed CDRW causes stop errors at boot up

I left IAA installed (udma 5 primary channel)and used the generic MS ide/esdi driver for the second channel. And, it must still be in PIO mode.

HP's (Veritas') latest (3.59) DLA and Intel's latest IAA drivers on the latest MB, bios (this was my present to myself) don't work. DLA barely works with generic drivers.

If it's DMA and DLA it's either BSOD or just a raw reboot on the first access to either of my DLA controlled optical devices. No DLA, no crash, no auto r/w.

Re: new installed CDRW causes stop errors at boot up

Try what I did.......

1. Open the CD drawers AND KEEP THEM OPEN! (This will prevent the drivers from coming into play as the CD burner reports a "not ready" status)
2. Boot the box
3. Remove HP DLA and HP Record Now as well as HP simple Backup (got a bug with win2k anyhow) (yes Virginia, these "apps" contain drivers)
4. Reboot.
5. Use another app like EZ CD Creator to format CD's. Win2k doesn't need anything more to burn CD's.
