I remember a while back HP had the SCSI toolbox utility available to download firmware from a PC to standalone optical drives (e.g. 2600fx, 5200ex). Does this tool still exist or is it replaced by LTT (Library and Tape Tools)?
Measure twice, cut once.

Solution
It's still alive, but for HP engineers use only. HP LTT is very powerful utility, and it's fool-proof, thus not allowing to do some these 'foolesh' things if needed - for example, download tape firmware to the disk. Just an example.
Sometimes it's needed to make some very low level modifications or tricks and then toolbox is used.
Normally customers should use HP LTT for device testing and firmware upgrades. BTW, it supports not only optical drives, but tape drives of very different technologies and autochangers
