DHCP Problem with HP 1820 series switches (layer 2)

I have what should be a fairly simple setup but I also have a problem I can't figure out. Anyone who is connected to my core switch gets a DHCP lease virtually instantly. If you are connected to any other switch in the stack it takes between 42 seconds to three minutes to get a lease. The connection goes through stages - no network detected - identifying network - no internet access - DHCP lease full access. Here is my config:

Forinet firewall which is also my DHCP source

Core Switch - Aruba 2540 layer 3

Remainder of the stack - HP 1820 48G layer 2 switches. Each 1820 has a pair of ports in a trunk set to load balance connected to the core.

Since the 1820s are layer 2 there isn't the option of adding the DHCP relay/helper. Is there something I can do to fix this? When I leave my desk for a meeting and undock my laptop, then return and dock it again it takes an unreasonable amount or time, as mentioned above. Yes, I have actually sat many times with a stop watch and timed it... never less than 42 seconds and out as far as 3 minutes to get a lease.
