SmartStart 8.00 and Windows 2008

I'm trying to use SmartStart 8.00 x64 for installation with Windows 2008 Enterprise x64. During installtion, it is complaining about missing the hpssbem.ini file. I think this file should be build by the SmartStart program, since only the hpssbem.exe is on the CD.

I saw that the file is also missing on the x86 version of SmartStart.

Please advise.

I downloaded the SmartStart 8.00 x64 a couple of weeks ago and performed a Windows 2008 Enterprise x64 installation without any issues. We also installed a second machine last week using the same setup.

Hello James, on what type of hardware did you perform the installation? I tried it on a BL460c. Maybe there is a difference.

Just use pata dvd drive instead sata.

I am experiencing the same issue with a DL385G1. Loaded from SmartStart 8.00 x64 using a USB key with .ISO image. Everything went smooth to this point.

Anyone got any ideas?

I had the luxury of having a second smart start DVD, a second Server 2008 DVD.

I tried swapped both DVDs *AND* I choose not to install the HP WMI service (you're asked this during the smart start assisted install.

After those 3 changes I was able install without an issue. Not sure which one did it, but hopefully this is helpful to someone.
