Updating 3.81 to 3.82 : can not detect altiris DB management services
Hello,
The situation is that I was tasked with upgrading the rdp install to 3.82, because there was problems with 3.81 and the fresh install was thought to likely resolve it. Unfortunatly it made it worse.
The issues primarily revolve around the altiris portion of the rdp 3.82 install.
As of now, Altiris Deployment Console, and PXE config cannot connect to the DB Management service, and reasonably fail.
Altiris Deployment Services:
"Unable to connect to the Altiris Deployment Server DB Management Service. Please make sure this service has been started and is running"
PXE Config
"The PXE Manager service has not connected with the DS server yet"
In the event logs for the AltirisDataManager, it spits this out quite frequently:
-------
Event Type: Error
Event Source: AltirisDataManager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date: 29/12/2008
Time: 12:56:39 PM
User: N/A
Computer: computer1
Description:
eXpressDatabase
Error 4060: Cannot open database "eXpress" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'computer1\userlocal'.
-------
All portions of the install are hosted on the local server.
I'll consider a clean install. But I dont know what I'll have to backup / how toback up which particular pieces so if something were to go wrong, it wouldn't be hard to default back to what was already configured.
Thank you in advance for your time and considerations,
-Aaron

We too have the same issue. Were you able to find a fix, other than a clean install?

Re: Updating 3.81 to 3.82 : can not detect altiris DB management services
Haha, oh yes, with plenty of trial and error.
The steps I had to take to have the database fully recognized, the abridged version.
If you're trying to install it somewhere other than the system partition:
--Install all dependencies to the same drive.
(Uninstalled IIS, WAIK, SQLexpress, HP RDP & associated Altiris programs. Reinstalled them all to the E: drive with more storage)
Otherwise things to check:
--Ensure that under administrative tools > services, that 'altiris server data manger' is set to manual.
--Ensure that for all 'Altiris PXE _____' services, under properties, have ben assigned proper logon creditials of 'this account'. 'local system account' didn't work for me at all.
Those were at least the two oddest quirks I found with my install, of which no one else seemed to have experienced.
Hope it helps some.
