172 EISA configuration invalid
I bought a ProLiant 5000 server second hand and I get this message during POST: "172 EISA Configuration Nonvolatile Memory Invalid". All I can find on the Compaq web site is the following:" Run the System Configuration Utility and correct". This is seemingly impossible, since the system won't boot far enough to do anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 172 EISA configuration invalid
You should get a message after this that says to continue or for SCU (System Configuration Utility). I am guessing this system has been erased due to the normal nature of this error. What you will need to do is boot to a SmartStart CD which should have come with this machine. The other thing you can do is download the SCU from the Compaq Website and create the floopies required for the system to boot. These are the only ways I know how to get around this. The system partition may still be loaded on this machine so you can try to press F10 to continue - and run the System Configuration from there.

Re: 172 EISA configuration invalid
Thanks. I was able to solve the problem last night using the following procedure: 1) set jumpers 1,2,4,5,6 to 'on' (why isn't this documented anywhere!). 2) boot off of the ROMpaq 4.03a diskette to fix the ROM, which was apparently where the problem was. 3) Reset jumpers from step 1 to 'off'. 4) reboot.
I can now boot past the error message, but the SCU is missing, and one of the diskettes I made with it was corrupt, but I can fix this tonight.
