20/40 DAT has internal SMSDI errors

Currently I am trying to install netware 4.11 on a Proliant ML330. I have installed the OS but I can't seem to get the tape drive to function. I've installed service pack 9 from novell. I also have the nwtape.nlm, cpqscsi.ham, and cpqshd.cdm loading in my startup.ncf. I also have the TSA410.nlm loading. I'll be able to get to the point where SBACKUP asks me to label the tape and then it will give me this error; "(SBACKUP-4.20a-284)SBACKUP cannot write a label to the media: (SMSDI v1.0 267)An internal SMSDI error has occurred." Novell can be of no help unless I pay $300.00. Is there anything else I can try?? The tape drive is a 20/40 DAT drive.

Look at your Autoexec.NCF file and see if you are loading NWASPI.NLM. You should not be loading both nwaspi and nwtape.nlm. If this does not resolve problem, try down loadingg SP16275.exe from COMPAQ's web (www.compaq.com/support/files/allsp.html). This will rundiagnostic on the drive as well as update the firm ware..
