6402 in lock up state on DL140
I have a smart array controler 6402/128 in a proliant dl140 installed which hangs at boot time with message:
1783 Slot 0 Array controler is in a lock up state due to a hardware configuration failure.
and
Expanison rom initialization failed
- pci mass storage controler on Motherboard
Bus: 06, Device: 04, function: 00
It is a brand new system delivered two days ago.
Any help is greatly appreciated to solve the problem.
Sincerely and desperately seeking,

Re: 6402 in lock up state on DL140
Is this combination compatible?
I have doubt about it.
Check this link:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/servers/proliantstorage/arraycontrollers/compatability-matrix.pdf
This other link is for server and additional card that we can configure
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11821_div/11821_div.html
Hope it helps you to understand the current senario.

Re: 6402 in lock up state on DL140
thank you Prashant for your reply.
Well, it should be compatible since I have seen it running. Moreover,
the raidcontroler 6402/128 fits well into our proliant DL140 G2 and the storage MSA20 was up for nearly two hours.
However, after reboot for installation we got the error message from the system.
How can we get around the "lock up state"?
I've tried the firmware_maintenance-7.20-0 cdisk but nothing changed.
again, any help is appreciated...
sincerely

Re: 6402 in lock up state on DL140
However it doesn't solve the problem.
Is there a possibility to know what kind of raid controler works with the dl140 g2 to drive a msa20?
is there a chance? what should we change?
Board, server?
again many thanks in advance, yours
bernd

Re: 6402 in lock up state on DL140
Try to remove controller, remove cache memory, than reattach memory and reinstall controller.
Can you try to use it in another server?

Re: 6402 in lock up state on DL140
reinstallation of the card didn't work too. So we have to find another solution.
maybe the controler
Adaptec PCI SCSI RAID-Controller
PID: 355671-B21
will work with our dl140 g2???
sincerely,
Bernd

Re: 6402 in lock up state on DL140
in you post you have pointed msa 20
is it ::
HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 30
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11738_div/11738_div.HTML
Where as you controller is supported with the storage no doubt. but there is no support statement with the dl140 and sa 6402. Which leads to a doubt
even though server specs says :
------------
I/O - 64-bit/133MHz PCI Voltage: 3.3 volts
and card support
-----------
64 bit, 133 MHz PCI-X PCI Bus with 3.3 volts.
I suggest check with the support team to try same sa 6402 on different server. or any other sa if possible.
Hope it helps you to get more details in this issu.

Re: 6402 in lock up state on DL140
Consider using one of the controllers listed in the Quickspecs. Be careful of chosing the right controller (i.e. SCSI vs. SAS/SATA). (The 6402 is a SCSI based RAID controller).
