Add two additional drives to existing RAID 1 config on HPE Proliant DL380 Gen10 Server
Hi,
I have an HPE Proliant DL380 Gen10 plus server that has two SATA SSD 480 GB drives configured as RAID 1. This server has VMWare ESXi 8.0 Update 2 installed on it and a couple of Virtual Machines.
I have bought two more SATA SSD 480 GB drives so that I can expand the storage capacity of the server and have more space in VMWare ESXi datastore.
Would it be possible to add the two new drives to the exisitng RAID 1 config and grow the disk capacity of the existing RAID 1 or would it be better to configure a second RAID 1 using the two new SATA SSD 480 GB drives and then make the second RAID 1 available to VMWare ESXi as a separate datastore?
Thanks.

Re: Add two additional drives to existing RAID 1 config on HPE Proliant DL380 Gen10 Server
Hi,
normally I would first have to ask about the raid controller used.
But with SSD you will have no benefit by expanding the first R1.
It is much easier and safer to create a second R1.

Re: Add two additional drives to existing RAID 1 config on HPE Proliant DL380 Gen10 Server
Thanks, Cali.
I will create a new R1. That will also help prevent loss of data on the first/existing R1.
