Adding 2nd processor to DL145 G2
Hi all,
Attempting to add a 2nd processor to a DL145 G2 and experiencing some issues. Previously, the box had 1 processor and 4 memory modules (2 x 1Gb & 2 x 512Mb) all in the 1st bank of slots.
With the 2nd processor added and the memory in its existing configuration the server will boot fine. Running the AMD CPU tool in windows will recognise the second procesor OK.
However, when we tried to split the memory between the 1st and 2nd banks with the modules in slots 3,4,7 & 8 as suggested by the Maintenance and Service guide the server will fail to get as far as displaying the POST screen. It just sits with the fan going full blast and make no progress.
We've tried just about every memory configuration (including adding 8 x 512Mb modules). Any suggestions as to where we've gone wrong would be greatly appreciated.
cheers
Stuart

Re: Adding 2nd processor to DL145 G2
Problem resolved by splitting original memory unevenly between the two banks so 2 x1Gb modules in bank 1 and 2 x 512Mb modules in bank 2.
Additionaly memory we'd been testing with also caused issues as although right spec was unregistered which apparrently won't work with the Opterons.
