Adding a 2nd Processor
I've added a second processor to my ProLiant 3000 server, but it is not being recognized in NT. BIOS detects the processor but NT does not. I even get a message in the Event Log from time to time saying that I have a 2nd processor installed but that it is not being used. I know I need to update the HAL, but how do I do this?

Re: Adding a 2nd Processor
Download the latest SSD for this machine (2.20A : http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/locOsCat/7.html). This will install all kinds of fabulous drivers and utilites that will make your server very happy. You should also have access to an exploded (expanded) SP6 (or whatever the latest service pack is that you run), as you will see that there is an option to upgrade the HAL from a UNI processor to a MULTI processor. The HAL upgrade will need the files.
It is my professional advice that you also take the time to install the Hal Recovery Option, and this is why: The 3000 is a Dual processor machine (you know this). When operating an SMP box, if one of the processors goes offline (processor failure, vrm failure, etc) you will not be able to boot a Single Processor system with a Multiprocessor Hal. Installing this feature creates another entry in the Boot.ini that will load up a UNI processor HAL so you can get your box back up while you wait for parts. Then when they arrive, install them, and boot normally and you have your SMP system up and running again. Without the HAL Recovery option, your box could be out of production until the parts arrive. That might be OK, but it usually isnt.
So, after you install the SSD (which installs the Compaq Management Driver), you can install your Insight Agents and really start to have fun!!!!!!
