Adding more memory to Proliant

Our server: Proliant 1600 has 130MB. When I tried to add 128MB more, it complained. What do I do before adding more memory please?

There were many different releases of the ProLiant server.

The very first model (P266) had 64 MB of EDO ECC DIMM memory expandable to 512 MB

The very last model (PIII-600) had 128-MB 100-MHz registered ECC SDRAM memory standard, expandable to 1 GB

So any one of the models will go to 512MB. My assumption is that you are installing the wrong kind of RAM. I can't be more specific as you did not provide any details.
