SolutionThere will be no data lose due to power failure or system crash. The Array accelerator memory will be disabled and there will be no write cache enabled.
There will be an I/O hit and performance hit in write speed up to 90 %. The system will function with 10% write speed.
Upgrade the controller firmware and check the status of the battery after 72 hours. 90% firmware upgrade resolves this issue. 8% the battery replacement. And 2% the system board replacement.
Cheers,
Anand

Re: Battery failure on 6i controller in DL385G1.
DL385 G1 with VMWare ESX 3.5, about 15 virtual servers. Hardware in use since summer 2006.
Short downtime possible for about 30 minutes possible (every day).
Diagnosis from System Management Homepage for Smart Array 6i Controller on System Board:
...
Firmware Version: 2.76
...
Status: Temp Disabled
Battery Status: Failed, Replace Battery
...
Read Errors: 0
Total Memory: 192 MB
Write Errors: 0
Read Cache: 50%
Error Code: Replace Battery
Write Cache: 50%
Bad Data: None
What is the replacement part number or specification (if nessecary).
Really, is this a component that needs renewing every 2-3 years?

Re: Battery failure on 6i controller in DL385G1.
The part number is 307132-001.
3.6V battery pack assembly - 500mAh nickel metal hydride (NiMH) - Oval shaped, 12.5mm (0.5in) high, 38mm (1.5in) wide, and 77mm (3.0in) long
If you are US or UK, you can directly order from HP.
http://partsurfer.hp.com
The battery is not a standard consumable. But requires replacement on failure.
Rgards...

Re: Battery failure on 6i controller in DL385G1.
I have a customer
They have had 20 DL385G1's experience the following problem:
SIM reports a failed RAID battery on the storage controller. After fixing this, it always turns out to be a motherboard failure. They have performed firmware upgrades but to no avail. Has any pre-emptive fix been identified for this problem?
what is the best action to take
thanks
