Best CPU for the DL380 G9?

We currently run some DL380 G9 with 2xE5-2699 v3 CPUs and currently look into an upgrade from only the CPUs. When I checked the QuickSpecs PDFs I´m a little bit lost which might be the best CPU here. The Server is used to compress movies into the x265 Format. Any advise would be great.

The v4 version of the same processor (2699v4) is a good upgrade (same FCLGA2011-3 socket and sold in some of the final gen9 DL380's); however, it wouldn't be worth the cost if you are not able to repurpose your existing v3 version.

For your specific purpose, you would get much better performacne with an RTX-based GPU, I believe.  And for much less money, pack 4x4x4x4 (4x4 bifuircated) NVMe drives to temporarily move any in-process content before archiving it to a more economic form of storage.

Re: Best CPU for the DL380 G9?

thanks, will have a deeper look into some 2699v4. The idea was to sell the old CPUs and invest the money into the newer one.

The issue with SSDs/NVMe disk is that they aren´t build to permanetly write stuff on them (like we do in our case). If also look like if the bootleleg isn´t the disk its the CPU. The disk is mostly not doing a lot of stuff here.

But I like the idea to maybe install a RTX based GPU. However most of them became very expensive... thats why we started to look at first to the CPUs.
