Best Practices ProLiant DL380 Gen11, Server 2022 and Hyper-V virtual switches
Hi All,
I have read the HPE technical white paper on deploying Windows Server 2022 using HPE ProLiant Servers, however there is no mention of best practices for Microsoft Hyper-V
Implementing Microsoft Windows Server 2022 using HPE ProLiant servers, storage, and networking options
I have a HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 running Windows Server 2022 fully patched with the Hyper-V Role installed.
I want to create 2 x Hyper-V VMs, one for ADDS/DNS/DHCP, a second for File/Print
I have 4 x Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet ports:
How should I configure my Hyper-V Networking, E.G.
Dedicate 1 x Hyper-V Virtual Switch to Port 1 for the bare metal management OS, this keeps VM traffic separate from the management network
Dedicate Port 2 to VM1
Dedicate Port 3 to VM2
or
Dedicate 1 x Hyper-V Virtual Switch (External) to Port 1
This is for the bare metal management OS, this keeps VM traffic separate from the management network
Create a NIC TEAM for Ports 2,3,4
Dedicate 1 x Hyper-V Virtual Switch (External) to the NIC TEAM
Use LACP to aggregrate the switch NIC ports
Allocate the NIC TEAM adapter to the VMs, this offers maximum throughput and redundancy
Thank you!
Steve
