Black Screen after SP6a update

I had finished installing Service Pack 6a on a NT 4.0 SP5 Proliant 1600. Rebooted server and after the raid controller initialization I get a black screen with a cursor in the top left corner. Apparently, the SP replaced a controller driver? I receive no error messages.

Re: Black Screen after SP6a update

After SP installaton, Before Reboot - you should install the SSD to replace the Compaq specific drivers.

Re: Black Screen after SP6a update

SSD are Server Support Drivers. A Group of Drivers containing various drivers for the installed Hardware & a setup program which will detect & install the appropriate driver for the detected H/W.You can manually do the updation of the driver from the Floppy created.

Re: Black Screen after SP6a update

We are getting the 'blue screen of death', and then a memory dump, shortly after rebooting, after installing Service Pack 6a. Could the cause be the same? Do we need to reinstall Compaq specific software before rebooting?

Re: Black Screen after SP6a update

Yes.. You have to apply the Compaq specific drivers before rebooting the server. Many of the cards, controllers etc. in Compaq server works only with Compaq drivers & they behave erratically with the Microsoft drivers present in SP6a.

So apply the latest & correct SSD from Compaq before rebooting the server after SP6a applied.
