Cache module failed with new battery

Hello
I have a HP Proliant ML350p gen 8
On this server cache was disabled, status leds were meaning the battery was dead, i rodered another battery
in the meantime, i had to upgrade its CPU, i have had to update BIOS in order to do that, the CPU are now upgraded and works very well.
But after that, i received the battery and changed it.
Cache module still doesn't works, in ilo, i see "Cache Module Status Failed"

Is that possible that i have to update P420i smart array firmware in order to make the cache work (because it's actual version is not compatible with bios version) ?
If i update P420i firmware, will i have to reconfigure something ?

Thanks for your help

Re: Cache module failed with new battery

Hello,

The error Cache module Status failed indicates that the issue is with the cache module and not the cache battery. The cache battery is used to power the cache module to prevent data loss due to power disruption.

The option and spare part information would be present on the cache module itself. Please use it to replace the module.

It is always recommended to update the firmware of the controller to the latest version to take advantage of the fixes to many potential and discovered issues on the controller. It is accessible here.

Re: Cache module failed with new battery

Updating the firmware does not require re-configuring however we recommend you to backup the data before making any changes or updates. Updating the firmware gives then correct status of the hardware as well so update is recommended. Post the upgrade then check if the cache is permanently disabled or temporarily disabled in Smart storage administrator. If cache is temporarily disabled then battery replacement  should have fixed the issue. If its permanently disabled then cache and battery replacement is required. In very rare cases the controller could be causing this issue and might require replacement.

Re: Cache module failed with new battery

Hello, Smart Storage administratr says cache has been permanently disabled, battery state is charging (since many days now)

there is an option to activate cache even if battery is not fully charged or not present, is there a risk to activate this option if server is powered via a inverter (onduleur in french).

I have activated this option in order to see the difference, and cache works, isn't it strange ? can the new battery be faulty ?

I have ordered a refurbished cache module, i hope it will help

Thanks

Re: Cache module failed with new battery

Since it is permanently disabled replacing cache and battery should fix the problem. There is no risk involved however since the cache itself is disabled hence the functionality of caching wont be available at this state.

@Bunsol

The cache module has been changed, and the problem is solved
What is the correct read/write cache ratio for a server running an ERP software ?
Thanks

Re: Cache module failed with new battery

This question should be actually checked with ERP software team. We usually recommend to keep the read and write cache ratio to be default but again depending on the operation you can alwyas set as per your priority. Increase read % if there isnt much writing and vice versa but it all depends on what is the operation your application is running.
