I cannot find a clear answer. Can BIOS settings be changed from within a running Linux OS (RHEL 5)? I need to update serial number/product numbers on many servers, and do not want to take outages to do this if possible.
Update: I did find the SmartStart scripting toolkit, with conrep. When I save the BIOS settings to a file, the Product number is not in the output file, so I assume I cannot update this property with conrep.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Re: Change BIOS settings from Linux?
I'm trying to do the same thing as Bret, any chance I could get some guidance on the issue?

In reference to the subject title of this thread, if you're looking to change RBSU settings under Linux you need to download "conrep". It is included in the HP Scripting Toolkit for Linux, and as a stand alone rpm package in the SDR (Software Delivery Repository).
