Change failed hard drive in a ProLiant DL360 Gen10 server

Hello,

I have a failed hard drive in a ProLiant DL360 Gen10 server. Smart Array is configured in RAID 5 with a spare that is active now. This server is in production and I have another test server with the same specs and configuration. I want to change the failed hd of the prod server with the spare hd of the test server.

Is there any documentation on this? Do I need to make some configuration in Smart Storage Administrator or is simply a matter of changing the hds?

Thanks.

Hello,

It would be recommended to have the RAID rebuild to complete before considering replacing the defective hard drive.

As the hard drives are hot plug, there is no other procedure, but to remove the defecgtive drive and replace it with a working spare. It is always recommended that a complete data backup is available before performing any replacement procedures.

Hello Finrox,

I see your query is already answered above and I completely agree with it. You need to wait for the drive to rebuild and then proceed to replace the failed drive as RAID 5 offers a fault tolerance of 1 drive only.

Do you have any further queries on this  ?

Thanks,

TAM
