change RAID 5 to RAID 1, P410i and ESXi 5 ("raid=1" is not a valid option for logicaldrive 1)
Hi,
I mistakenly installed ESXi 5 on a new DL580G7 host with 3 disks in RAID5. Now I want to change that to RAID 1 + spare which is our default.
I already tried to modify the RAID level with hpacucli command, but the direct step from R5 to R1 seems not to be possible. Would it be possible if I first migrate to RAID 0 and in a second step to RAID 1?
=> ctrl all show config Smart Array P410i in Slot 0 (Embedded) (sn: 5001438020BC06E0) array A (SAS, Unused Space: 0 MB) logicaldrive 1 (558.7 GB, RAID 5, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:1 (port 1I:box 1:bay 1, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:2 (port 1I:box 1:bay 2, SAS, 300 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:3 (port 1I:box 1:bay 3, SAS, 300 GB, OK) SEP (Vendor ID PMCSIERA, Model SRC 8x6G) 250 (WWID: 5001438020BC06EF) => ctrl slot=0 ld 1 modify raid=1 Error: "raid=1" is not a valid option for logicaldrive 1 Available options are: raid 0 raid 5 (current value) (default value)

Re: change RAID 5 to RAID 1, P410i and ESXi 5 ("raid=1" is not a valid option for logicald
Hi Pirx4711,
You have a RAID 5 partition of 558.7GB.
and only 3 hard drives of 300GB each.
You want to configure RAID1 partition of 300GB + spare drive.
You can't reduce the size of logical partition hence you couldn't see the option for RAID 1 migration.
If install 2 additional drives then you could configure it for RAID 1+0 (4 drives) + 1 spare drive
If want to meet your standard then there is no shortcut.
Hope this information clarifies the situation
