Compaq Management LCD with ProLiant 1600
Now, I've physically looked at 2 different versions of the Integrated Management Display; the 169338-001 and the 169338-002; and both show a spares number of 271930-001 on the sticker on the back.
My question is, will the 169338/271930 "001" and "002" work with the ProLiant 1600?
If so, does it plug into the "I2O Connector" located on the top left of the system board? (See item #2 in figure 4.5 on page 4.7 of the same manual listed above).
I have several of the "001" and "002" versions of the Management Display here, but both have one of the pins blocked in the ribbon cable connector. I2O appears to be where the ribbon cable plugs in on a ProLiant 2500 we have here, but you can't always go by appearances.
I don't want to blow anything up, and I can't find reference on HP/Compaq's site about the 169338-00X or the 271930-00X, other than what I've shared with you so far. Any URL links or RTFM information you can point me to is *GREATLY* appreciated!
(Sorry about all the "item" and "page" references, I'm just trying to be as complete as possible.)

Re: Compaq Management LCD with ProLiant 1600
The correct part no for the IMD for PL1600 is 271930-001. Yes it does connect to the connector on the top left of the system board.

Re: Compaq Management LCD with ProLiant 1600
So, any idea what the deal is with the bocked pin on the ribbon cable?
The PL 2500s do indeed have a missing pin on the I2O slot, so these IMDs I have work fine with the PL 2500s. But the PL 1600s do not have any missing pins, so I cannot physically plug the LCD into a PL 1600.
Is there any place online I can find more information about the 169338-001/002 or the 271930-001? It seems logical that Compaq would have more detail about these LCD modules somewhere. Perhaps an owner's manual?
Thanks again!!

Re: Compaq Management LCD with ProLiant 1600
This really sounds familiar to me...
I have a ProLiant 2500 here with IMD and also a PL1600, - currently awaiting a new IMD plus adaptor cable to arrive.
You are correct with the connection on your PL2500 - it does connect with a blanked pin to the connector on the System I/O board.
However, the ProLiant 1600 differs. The I20 connector on the PL1600 System Board is NOT the correct location for the IMD connector!
For your PL1600 you need an IMD with an additional adaptor cable commonly referred to as a "Y" cable. This adaptor cable has two smaller connectors (for the Backplane Board) on one end, and a single connector (for the IMD) on the other end. (Search eBay and you will find several IMD's listed C/W "Y" cables and photos.)
The correct mounting connectors for the IMD on a ProLiant 1600 are located on the Backplane Board just above the two 68 pin SCSI A & B bus connectors. (Note: the Backplane Board is the same for all models of PL1600)
Refer 'Compaq Proliant 1600 Servers Maintenance and Service Guide' P/N 179480-001 Section 4-8, Fig. 4-6 and Table 4.8 for the Backplane Board / Integrated Management Display connector location. (Downloadable from HP website as 281834-001_rev2_us.pdf)
Sorry, can't find a P/N for the "Y" cable.

Re: Compaq Management LCD with ProLiant 1600
Correction: The .pdf file name in my first posting is for the PL2500 Guide.
The correct downloadable .pdf file name for the Compaq ProLiant 1600 Servers Maintenance and Service Guide is: TPM_179480-001_rev3_us.pdf
Cheers,
