cpu stepping levels

Please can anyone tell me if there is a problem with poor performance under Windows 2000 using dual Xeon processors with different stepping levels .I've been told that an internal Compaq advisory exists which highlights this problem and that both Xeon processor HAVE TO BE THE SAME STEPPING LEVEL but this advisory is for internal use only .

Re: cpu stepping levels

The problem I have encountered with Dual eon processors with different stepping levels is a Bug check Blue Trap Screen error that rebuts the server. Compaq has confirmed that mixed stepping levels are supported if they are + or - one level, and the lower of the two are in the first slot (slot 0) and the higher of the two in the second slot (slot 1). I had two servers that had + or - 3 levels and compaq replaced the lower stepping levels with an equal level. This has not corrected the Bug check errors, therefore I cannot conclude it is related. What performance problems have you encountered?
