CPU upgrade of my Proliant DL360G4 server

Hey experts:

I just purchased a second hand Proliant DL360G4 server. I was wondering if I can upgrade the CPU to dual cores.

I found a label says S/N: USM61803P1 on the box.

I also opened the box and discovered a label on the system board that says the following:

SP#: 409741-001
PB6B80ARHT26IQ
AS#: 416436-501

Any suggestion would be appreciated!

Regards, Jeff

Re: CPU upgrade of my Proliant DL360G4 server

Hi Jeff,

Not according to the Quickspecs for your system numbers you gave:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12166_na/12166_na.html#Options

This system supports 2 single core processors only:
Serial Number USM61803P1
Product Number 376235-001
Product Description HP DL360G4p X3.8/2M/2G ***SCSI*** RPS US Svr

The SAS G4p model does support Dual-core. So you would have to change hardware.

Re: CPU upgrade of my Proliant DL360G4 server

Hey cnb:

Thank for the input. I think you may be right.

Actually I am quite confused. I can see that there are two processors in the box. At the same time, the OS shows the following info:

Intel Xeon CPU 5160 @ 3.00GHz
Speed: 2,999.60 MHz
Cores: 2
Temperature: 8'C

How do I interpret this info? Xeon 5160 seems to be a dual core processor.

Sorry - I checked the wrong box.

I will check the correct box and come back with the CPU info

Hi Jeff,

Check the M/B part numbers. There are different ones for that series.

Re: CPU upgrade of my Proliant DL360G4 server

From the quickspecs this model was not sold from HP with a Dual-core 3GHz processor.
But dual-core 2,8GHz IS mentioned as an option kit.

My conslusion would be that the previous owner allready changed processor to the current Xeon-5160.
