CPU Upgrade to PIII550 possible ?
Is it possible to upgrade a Proliant 3000 PII333 to a PIII550 ?
If so, what do I need ? I ordered a Compaq PIII550 CPU for the Proliant 3000 (pn: C124779B21), but this kit only provided a PIII550 CPU and a voltage regulator. The Proliant 3000 expects a circuitboard with a voltage regulator and a CPU on it.
Any suggestions ?
Thanx
Florian

Re: CPU Upgrade to PIII550 possible ?
I assume the red COMPAQ logo indicates you work for compaq ?
Please have a look at:
http://www.compaq.com/products/servers/proliant3000/400-450-qa.html
It states:
Q: Is there any upgrade path for ProLiant 3000 6/300 and 6/333 customers? A: Yes. Existing ProLiant 3000 6/300 and 6/333 customers can upgrade to 100MHz GTL bus and SDRAM memory technologies by ordering the upgrade kit, their processor of choice (6/400 or 6/450) and the SDRAM memory. The part number for this upgrade kit is 179766-B21.
Therefore, with this upgrade kit I will get a 100 Mhz bus and it should also support a PIII550.
If I am mistaken, please respond
Thanx

Re: CPU Upgrade to PIII550 possible ?
As for the method that the poster was trying to use, the response from the Compaq rep was perfectly correct, if incomplete as to alternate configurations by way of [virually] complete system upgrades. For the cost of that upgrade, he [original poster] would be making a better investment by buying a newer machine.

Re: CPU Upgrade to PIII550 possible ?
So I offended Compaq personel. Does this mean I will NOT get a real answer ?
Or should I post a new question ? Or should I just buy another brand of server because I cannot upgrade my 2 single CPU PL3000's to 2 double CPU PL3000's ?
Please DO answer my question !
Regards
Florian
