I am planning to install a DAT drive on a Proliant 3000,
Although the installation should be simple there are a few questions I would like to ask the experts
The DAT drive is set for SCSI ID 07
And ???active termination is set as ???on???
This will be the only device on the Channel
Should I go-ahead with these settings?

Solution
On Proliant servers, including the 3000 the SCSI ID for a tape drive is 6. Also termination on the drive should be off, as the Proliant SCSI cable does have a terminator on the end.
If you are using a non-Compaq non-terminated cable, you could set the termination on on the DAT drive, provided no other SCSI devices have termination set on.
The old rule is: Only one SCSI termination, and it is to be at the non-systemboard end of the cable.
If you are using a non-Compaq non-terminated cable, you could set the termination on on the DAT drive, provided no other SCSI devices have termination set on.
The old rule is: Only one SCSI termination, and it is to be at the non-systemboard end of the cable.

Re: DAT Drive on Proliant 3000
Thanks for that, I will set the ID as 06, as this the only device on the channel shall leave ???active termination ??? on ,and attach the drive to the end of the cable,
(none Compaq cable with no terminator)
regards
Peter.

The old rule is: Only one SCSI termination, and it is to be at the non-systemboard end of the cable.
I believe the above is an old Compaq rule - it seems that Compaq onboard SCSI has no way to disable the termination.
SCSI rules are - TWO terminators, one at each end of the SCSI bus.
