Different disk sizes for RAID10 on Smart Array P440ar
Hello community,
I have a question about combining different disk capacities for RAID1 on RAID0, on Smart Array P440ar.
I have 2 RAID1 with 1.8TB HP G8-G10 1.8-TB 12G 10K 2.5 SAS (model EG001800JWJNR). That is 4 of the same disks.
This morning I have discovered that one of the disks is in degraded state.
I am not able to buy 1.8TB as there is non available to be sold, but there is a 2.4TB from the same family.
Could it be possible to rebuild degraded RAID1 with 1.8TB and 2.4TB disks on Smart Array P440ar?
Thanks for you effort.
Best regards,
Stefan.

Re: Different disk sizes for RAID10 on Smart Array P440ar
Hi @steva_car
As you mentioned, if the disk is degraded. The disk may be degraded for multiple issues.
You can try disk diagnostics which will result in the health of the disk.
If it is good, you can go with the same by resolving the root cause of degradation if not work, you can replace it.
Yes, you can create the RAID 0 on RAID 1 disks with the new 2.4TB. The criteria is the new disk must have a higher capacity than the existing one.
In short: you can diagnose, replace the degraded disk with new disk and create RAID 0 on RAID 1.
