Hello.
We have a ProLiant BL460c G6, that have some Firmware warnings on the Ilo - and that a disk drive firmware is recommended:
POST Error: 1770-Slot X Drive Array - Disk Drive Firmware Update Recommended
I have found 3 pieces of firmware, that im going to install:
P400 Firmware 6,40 -> 7,24 (B)
DG0300FARVV Unknow firmware -> HPDG (B)
EG0300FAWHV Unknow firmware -> HPDF (B)
The disks are in a Raid 1, and the server have a SB40c Storageworks connected also, with Raid 5.
Im aware that the servers VMs should be closed, and that the server will require a reboot.
I was thinking about updating the storage controller first, then reboot.
Then take the disk seperately, and reboot after each firmware update.
Now im wondering, is this the right way to proceed?
Will the Raid 1 be destroyed afterwards? will i have to rebuild? will any data be lost? Will this effect the Storageworks?
The server is in a C3000 with firmware 3.30
Any help and suggestions would be really appreciated! :)

Re: Disk Firmware on ProLiant BL460c G6
easiest/safest is to boot the server on HP's SPP: http://hp.com/go/spp
Make sure the firmwares you want to install are on the SPP, if they're not you can put the SPP on a USB and manually put the .scexe files on it. The SPP can be run in interactive mode, so can choose which firmware updates to apply. I've done this several times without issues.
Applying firmware updates should not cause any rebuild or data to be lost. But keep a backup of course!
What is "detrue"? The RAID should not be rebuilt either.

SolutionThere are many ways to update the firmware.
Booting from SPP will update all firmware available for the server. Running hpsum on the running OS (local or remote) will update the firmware online and all the drivers too.
You may also run hpsum (from the current SPP on a remote system and point it to the OA of the enclosure and the individual blade OS, doing this will update the enclosure itself, the blade firmware and drivers.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Disk Firmware on ProLiant BL460c G6
Hello.
Thanks for the reply :)
We do not at the current time, want to update all firmwares on the server - only the Disk / storage controller firmware.
So if i run the 3 .exe files, ive found on HPs driver site, then im not going to run into a known error?

Re: Disk Firmware on ProLiant BL460c G6
You can boot SPP or run it online and deselect all components you don't want to update.
But I would update all components if updates are available.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Disk Firmware on ProLiant BL460c G6
Hello.
Thanks, this is great info :)
I have some issues finding the right SPP for the BL460c G6 server?
So far i have tried 2014.02.0 and 2013.02.0(B)....
Any suggestions to what SPP version might be the right one?

Re: Disk Firmware on ProLiant BL460c G6
Hello.
Yeah i can see now, i can see the firmware for one of the discs. The DG0300FARVV is present in the SPP, but the EG0300FAWHV is not?
Would you do the firmware update "online" from Windows, or boot on the ISO image?
Again thanks for the help! :)

Re: Disk Firmware on ProLiant BL460c G6
SPP 2014.02 has for DG0300FARVV version HPDG;
for EG0300FAWHV the web has version HPDF:
No idea why this is not in the SPP. It is not even in SPP 2013.09.
You could add the *.scexe file to the SPP directory hp\swpackages, so it will use it during update (create an USB stick from the ISO).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Disk Firmware on ProLiant BL460c G6
Hello.
I cant seem to find a .scexe file ?
In the older versions of hpsum, i could get latest updates from HP, and add them to repository... i cant seem to find this "option" in the new version?
