[DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Hello,
On HP SIM, i have 2 servers (DL 360 Gen8) where a small issue on ILO 4 appaear.
For both of them :
* On the HP Homepage server, on "Home » Management Processor » Integrated Lights-Out 4"
I have a small alert on the "Self Test Results"
The "Mouse" line has the orange alert.
On the ILO web page itself, the only issue i have in "Diagnostics" is :
Embedded Flash/SD-CARD Controller firmware revision 2.09.00 Embedded media manager failed media attach
On the 2 servers, ILO4 FW is in 1.51.
I try to update one of them in 2.03 but it doesnt change anything.
I have many more Gen 8 servers in the same configuration of those 2 without issue.
I dont find anything to resolve this.
Thanks for help.

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Hi,
Is this issue fixed? if not, please share a screenshot(s) of the error you are seeing.
By reading this message "Embedded Flash/SD-CARD Controller firmware revision 2.09.00 Embedded media manager failed media attach". I am guessing that SD Card is not attached onto the system board.
See if this document helps you.
Gen8 troubleshooting guide suggests as follows:
Issue: Embedded media manager failed initialization.
Workaround: Displays if iLO cannot start the embedded subsystem. Reset iLO and try again. The embedded media subsystem includes the internal SD-Card slot and the AHS store.
You may also try to Reset iLO to see if that fixes the issue.

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Hi HP,
Have you got a fix for that? We had a DL380 G8 running iLO firmware 1.2(released on Jan 2014). The server ran fine for a few months with no issue. One day it cannot dectect the internal SD-card after a reboot. I login iLO and check the Diagnostics. Under iLO Self-Test Results -> Embedded Flash/SD-CARD: Controller firmware revision 2.09.00 Embedded media manager failed media attach.
I reported that fault to HP support and they suggested to upgrade iLO firmware to v2.03. I did that but it didn't fix the issue. I had reset iLO but won't fix the issue either.
Now I suspect it's the physical card reader that cause the issue. I am arranging an onsite replacement with HP. Just wondering can HP replace the card reader without replacing the whole motherboard?
Thanks in advance
Vincent

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
I am facing same issue with HP XL230a Gen9 server.
seeam to be NAND flash memory on the system board is faulty.
NAND flash memory replacement would be a fix for this issue.
On suspacted server I swap out a NAND card and issue got resolved. Attaching image of card.
Also Embedded Flash/SD-CARD which were showing degraded earlier in diagnostic page now online after this PCA card replacement.

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Hi All,
We are experiencing the same issue (Controller firmware revision 2.09.00 Embedded media manager failed media attach) with iLO v. 2.10.
iLO Reset does not help.
HP Model: ProLiant DL380p Gen8.
HP ProLiant System ROM 09/18/2013
Would you suggest upgrading BIOS (System ROM) or open a case with HP Technical Support?

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Hello all,
we have the same issue on many different gen8 server. In ILO, diagnostic page, we see messages like: Controller firmware revision 2.10.00 Embedded media manager failed initialization. We see it on DL385p ge8, DL580 gen8. Latest ILO 2.40 installed, all firmwares up2date (April 2016 PSP).
There is no vissible problem with these servers, Intelligent Provisioning (probable related to embedded madia) is working normally.
ILO reset performed many times, including power cycle with disconecting power source.
Older advisory at: http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5249566&docId=emr_na-c03874400&docLocale=en_US says to ignore the message...
any updates?

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
I have this exact issue.
Did you ever get it resolved?
My symptoms are the fans are randomly (every minute or so) speeding up and making increased noises. Upon investigation, this was the only error that I could see in the ;
1) iLO Event Log - Embedded Flash/SD-CARD: Error reading media 0, physical block 2: Unknown Error Code.
2) iLO self test - Controller firmware revision 2.09.00 Could not partition embedded media device

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
I have experienced the same issue across different servers - BL460-G9, DL360-G8, DL380-G8, DL380-G9. HPE has a bulletin referring to this -
http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04996097
OneView first alerted me to an issue with one server - ILO error 8192. I have since experienced many of the errors in the bulletin. All ILOs are ILO-4, all are at ver 2.40 on firmware levels, all have errors listed on bulletin. All have required call to HPE and replacement of system board. On one call - tech asked me for error - told him "ILO-4 with error 8192" - before I could finish - his response was "we are sending a technician and a new system board". Sounds like a known issue at HPE...???...
All I am asking is - if this a known issue with ILO-4 - please let us know. We cannot arbitrarily turn-down production servers to replace these boards. I am sitting with several hundred ILO-4 machines and this is not looking like a good scenario...

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Hi, I have a similar problem - about 3-4 servers in remote locations with this error. I am curious if anyone has tried powering off the server, pulling the power cable to let the iLO controller "cold boot" so to speak and then after a minute or so re-inserting the power cables and restarting the server. As my servers are in a remote location, I cannot easily do this. But if this works for other people, then I will at least know it is worth a try coordinate with someone at the remote location to physically do this for me.
And for the record, I have also tried warm starting the iLO and updating the firmware. Neither worked.
Thanks
NK

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Please I'd like an update too.
I'm facing the same problem in a couple of servers. (AHS not mounted because some strange error in media manager, iLO warning in HP SIM)
One DL380 G8, and somes blades BL460c G8.
It can't possibly be a hardware problem. 3 blades out of 10 ? and previousy they were working fine. Only problem is the warning and can't export AHS.
All updated to latest SPP 2016.04, latest BIOS, iLO etc.
tried reboot server & reset iLO, no effect, I have yet to try good old "remove blade and insert again" / cold boot, but as someone said is kind of complicated, so I'd like to know if it's a solution or not beforehand.

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Hello All,
We have the same issue, but they appear only in HP Proliant 360 gen8, with an update ilo firmware (2.40). In the old ILO firmware version the "error" wasn't there.
Best regards

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Hi to all, just update from our opened cases - it seems we have to replace motherboards on all affected servers, as no ILO4 firmware update helps. Now we have to find service windows to do it. Generally, the issue seems to have some stages - first stage - only warnings in ILO and diagnostic, second stage - AHS logs can not be collected due corrupted flash on motherboard.
If your are in second stage, raise a hw case to HPE for motherboad replacement.

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
I have a monkeywrench to throw into the equation here.
I had a system board replaced on my DL380 Gen8 last week, I updated the firmware to 2.42 and after updating I'm getting the "Embedded Flash/SD-CARD: Embedded media manager failed initialization." error. I've tried re-formatting per instructions from HP through both the Windows ILO app and the web page, and it only succeeds in resetting ILO and nothing more.
As I said, the motherboard replacement just happened last week, so I'm going to be pretty upset if the solution is to replace it again, since it's a production server and needs as high uptime as possible.

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
Saw this tidbit in my email from HPE this morning...
Have tried all that it asks for - then had board replaced. A week later - same error on new board (as "Human_Diversion" stated). Didn't call back for same issue - mission-critical system that cannot afford to be down again.
At least HPE is aware of the issue - maybe a new ILO/system flash is in order...

I've tried iLO 2.44 and Force_Format.xml to reformat NAND partitions as per Document ID: c04996097.
Still getting after several resets : Controller firmware revision 2.09.00 Embedded media manager failed media attach

Re: [DL 360 Gen8] ILO 4 small issue
According to the advisory you need to re-install IP after format.
Current version for Gen8 is 1.63.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I can't even format the embedded media, so how could I install something after format?
