DL320 G2: PCI Firewire/1394 card fails, replacement too -- PCI bus kaboom?
Hi everyone,
We have had an Orange Micro Firewire 800 PCI card in one of our ProLiant DL320 G2s for a couple of years. We attach external Firewire/1394 drives to this server for backup purposes.
Worked great until last weekend, when Windows reported a slew of "sbp2port" errors, and the FireWire drive vanished from Disk Management and My Computer (Win2003). We tested the drive on another server, and it's okay. However, no other Firewire drives will be recognized or even noticed on the server in question. Hmmm, Firewire card died, I guess. So we uninstalled the old one, and installed a new SIIG Firewire card with its drivers.
Still nothing. Win2003 sees the Firewire card, but will not mount any Firewire drives. They don't show up in Device Manager, Disk Management, or My Computer. Running manual "Add Hardware" scans and rebooting doesn't help. The drives work on our other DL320s with Firewire cards...just not on this one, no matter what Firewire card we try!
So here's what I'm wondering: could the problem be with the server's PCI hardware, or something else?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: DL320 G2: PCI Firewire/1394 card fails, replacement too -- PCI bus kaboom?
Jefferson,
How can a tech know if all 1394 DV Fire Wire cables should be 4-pin or 6-pin to fit a PC fire wire connection?
In all of HP the PC Specs only list fire wire but not the 6-pin or 4-pin specs.
Thanks,
Jefferson Moore Adams
