DL360 G5 CPU upgrade.
Hello.
I have a DL360 G5 server and Xeon dual core 5120 CPU in it and i am planning to install the second 5120 CPU.
This processor model has 2 steppings: B2 and G0. The only difference between these CPUs is voltage range. B2=1.0V-1.5V, G0=0.85V-1.5V.
Will my server work if it run with 2 CPUs with different steppings each?
If not, then how to determine current CPU's stepping if i am running XenServer on it?
Maybe the HP provides with only one stepping models in market?

Re: DL360 G5 CPU upgrade.
Hi,
Its always recommended to update the BIOS before adding the second processor. The second processor should be of the same model/specs as of the first processor.
Regarding the change in Stepping for Intel 5120 processor, here is an article from HP for its Workstation model, I could not find a similar document for servers though.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01123933
Also refer to "Product Change Notification PCN 107467- 00" from Intel.
http://qdms.intel.com/dm/d.aspx/9E542281-7557-4CF6-8B8E-D1C6FB69297D/PCN107467-00.pdf
Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100 Series Processors, PCN107467-00, Product Design, B2/3 to G0 Stepping Change.
I guess that both the processors should work togeather, provided the BIOS/RBSU is updated on the server.
I havent tested this configuration myself but its the best guess/tip I can give.
Good Luck!

Thank You Suman_AN.
This info was very useful. In a couple days i am going to purchase another CPU. We'll see how it is working.
