Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

Is it possible to rebuild the array parity without data loss?

Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

first ensure you have a tape backup , have you looked and acu what does it say about status

now you can do the battery thing like i mentioned earlier post

Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

Hi

I am onsite right now.

I powered down the system and took the cover off. I removed the air baffles, and I can see the P400 card but not the battery...

I disconnected all 3 cables (2 that lead to the hard drive cages and another one in the front of the P400 card) - I hope this acheives the same thing as removing the battery? I took the whole card out for a few mins and then reinstalled it all.

Right now running a Smart Start Diagnostics test.

Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

Well, it seems no difference in terms of speed. The only thing that changed is that the Background parity queue message is no longer there.

Still taking over 20 mins to boot :/

While running the Smart Start CD diagnostics I noticed that the new disk took significantly longer to run the tests than the original 2 disks, I wonder if this could indicate something faulty?

Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

Something else I just noticed as well is that on the good server, all 3 disks activity LED's flash in sync.

On the "bad" server, the new disk often flashes out of sync with the other 2 original disks - does this indicate anything?

Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

Also, is it possible to migrate back to Raid 1? When I look at the options in ACU the only migrate options are Raid5 or 0.

I removed the new drive and now its rebuilding again :/

You may have a flaky new disk. It is filing but in such a way the controller does not detect it. Find another new disk to install in place of this one.

> is it possible to migrate back to Raid 1?
No you can not take disks out of the array group. You can only migrate the raid type with the existing disks or any new ones you added to the controller.

> the only migrate options are Raid5 or 0.
With 3 disks that's all you can do. If you had 4 disks you could do raid1 (or 10).

Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

looks like the new disk took longer as it has commenced rebuilding,(parity qued error gone now as you say ) have you looked in acu status messages

what does it say..

Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

also run offline diagnostics,

ensure all disks have new firmware too

if issue persists and the above is doen reseat disk backplane, and all other components .

if it still persists try another disk as suggested

Re: DL360 G5 P400i Raid 5 SLOW

It was the hard drive!

I put the new one in and it commenced the array rebuild. Remember the previous rebuilds took over a day? This one took 45 mins lol.

All blazing fast, and HP are rma'ing the bad drive.

Funny how no diagnostic showed any fault.
